Transfer Student Scholarships

Fort Lewis College awards scholarships during admission to help undergraduate students finance their college education. You can receive scholarships based on academic merit through your major and many other avenues. Explore your transfer student scholarship opportunities below.

Transfer Student Merit Scholarships

Admitted transfer students with a 3.0 or higher college-level GPA who have not previously earned a baccalaureate degree are automatically considered for merit-based tuition scholarships. Merit scholarships are renewable for up to 8 semesters or 120 credit hours, whichever comes first. You do not need to complete a separate application.

State Exchange Merit Scholarships

You can also receive a Merit Scholarship through the New Mexico Reciprocal Scholarship, the San Juan College Reciprocal Scholarship, or the Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE) Scholarship. Merit scholarships cannot be combined.

New Mexico Reciprocal (NMR) Scholarship

This scholarship brings FLC tuition to the “in-state rate” for residents of New Mexico. It is available to transfer students seeking their first baccalaureate degree with a minimum cumulative college-level GPA of 3.0. The scholarship is renewable if you continue to meet renewal criteria. 

The NMR is for residents of New Mexico.

The NMR scholarship cannot be combined with other tuition merit scholarships.

San Juan College Reciprocal Scholarship

This scholarship is available to students transferring from San Juan College in Farmington, New Mexico, with a cumulative college GPA of 2.75 or higher and who have earned an Associate of Arts or Associate of Science degree.

Students must be New Mexico residents to be eligible. The scholarship is renewable if you continue to meet renewal criteria.


The SJCRS scholarship cannot be combined with other tuition merit scholarships.

Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE) Scholarship

The WUE scholarship is available to transfer students seeking their first baccalaureate degree with 30 college-level semester credits and a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0. The WUE scholarship reduces out-of-state tuition to 150% of the in-state tuition rate.

This scholarship is for residents of AK, AZ, CA, HI, ID, MT, ND, NM, NV, OR, SD, UT, WA, WY, Guam, and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands.

The scholarship is renewable if you continue to meet renewal criteria. It cannot be combined with other tuition merit scholarships.

Foundation, Departmental, and Alumni Scholarships

Foundation and Departmental Scholarships are sourced from private donors and provide financial assistance to our transfer students seeking their first baccalaureate degree. Scholarship recipients are chosen based on academics, achievement, and financial need. These scholarships require their application and are due on or before February 1 each year.

The Alumni Scholarship comes from our Alumni Engagement office and is available to the children and grandchildren of FLC alumni.

Athletic Scholarships

Contact the head coach of the athletic program you're interested in for information on athletic scholarships.

FLC's cycling program offers scholarships to support student cycling.

Native American Tuition Waiver

While not technically a scholarship, the Native American Tuition Waiver (NATW) is for transfer students who are members of US federally recognized Native American tribes. If you qualify, you  can attend FLC tuition-free.

The Native American Center provides scholarship information to support students with other expenses such as student fees, housing, meal costs, books, and any additional fees.
